Abyssal Labyrinth
A downloadable game
I made this for one of my classes and had two weeks to make the bare bones, and the rest of the semester to clean it up. It's not completely as finished as I would have liked it to be, but the horror essence is there (hopefully-). One of my favourite games to watch was Dark Deception and I loved how simple the concept was, yet how much the developers were able to do, and still have a narrative to the game. I wanted to make something similar that remains within the timeline of my semester.
The game isn't completely done and polished; I think it would be cool if I had the visual jump scares working, but the audio cue will have to do for now. My next steps are to add animations to the enemies, or even skins. I also want to add a jump scare animation in the future.
The previous bug with the enemies is fixed ^-^

I've loved seeing all of the improvements on gameplay throughout the semester. I really like the mechanic of having to play conservatively with your flashlight to save power. Really looking forward to playing this when you got some spooky character designs for the enemies!
The functions of the game are becoming more refined; I think something that could improve the gameplay aspect of the game though is that the enemy could accelerate as the player is running from them.
So fun! I got a little motion sick (my fault) bit it was a fun experience. You really feel the stress, especially when trying to recharge the flashlight!
The atmosphere of this game is cool! It would be interesting to see unique designs for the monsters.
Such a well-thought-out game! We actually got quite scared with the silence and dark room, just knowing something was watching us! The mechanics are so cool as well, with the flashlight and battery. Looking forward to what more you can add to the game, or even the enemy!
I actually got jumpscared by the enemy at the very start, so clearly the game works as horror. I don't really understand how the enemies behave though (maybe that's the point).
A good stressful game i liked how you added more enemies and the sound to make it scarier, such a creepy game with a hard but satisfying objective!
Nice updates.
I like the flashlight now has a timer and you can visually see it, adding more of a challenge. I also like that the enemies are now faster, making it so they are more of a threat. The ending area having a green light was also appreciated to indicate that the end was near.
I think there are too many battery pickups scattered around the area. It felt like I could always have the flashlight on and then some with the amount of pickups I got. Reducing it could help with the horror aspect and add further resource management challenges.
Overall, amazing progress throughout.
I LOVE JUMPSCARE HORROR. I would highly recommend you model the enemies to be freaky and have them straight jumpscare the player when they get caught. Fantastic game.
This game is definitely a lot spookier with the addition of the audio! It is especially spooky with the default unreal engine models. It would be fun to have a way to fight them like with some kind of weapon that can be collected in one of the rooms. Overall, really fun game! -Mary
I think what would be cool is to also add flashlight flickering and possibly some art assets, but otherwise really cool.
as someone who cannot stand anything remotely horror vibed, congrats you have definitely scared me HAHA. love that you visibly have a timer for the flashlight and the whole darkness for the players to panic about. one thing that i think will be cool is that maybe the monsters have a weeping angel mechanic with the light/dark u can play with? will definitely make it scarier haha
super fun update, i liked the inclusion of a timer and cooldown time for the flashlight as it made it more intense! Teach me your unreal engine ways🙏
Very cool concept of a game. I like the horror aspects. The flashlight energy preservation system is a good addition to force the player to worry and panic in darkness. I also like that the items spin, making it obvious to see and collect.
I think that the reload needs some consequences as it doesnt give the player any incentive to do it early, so they can just let the flashlight die each time and maximize usage. I feel if the reload halted your movement and took some time to complete, it would make players have to decide whether to reload early when it's safe, or risk reloading when empty where they could get chased. I also feel that the enemy needs to be a bit faster to be more of a lingering threat.
Overall, a unique and fun game.
Super spooky! With some better character assets and jump scares, this would be an amazing thriller game!
Loved the spooky ambiance and how big and expansive the game felt! Really cool :))
The game was confusing at first but figured it out a bit at the end. I like where you can pick up the battery, but you can't recharge the flashlight. Also I like the fact that you can take damage from enemies so you have to run away from them.
you can recharge with R! working on a tutorial within game to help better understand it 😊
Yeah I was able to play it again and the recharge worked with R.
